Journey in Time
Knights in Time, Book 2
Journey in Time embodies the excitement, romance, and danger of Medieval England when the hero and heroine are suddenly thrust back in time. The period is brought to life for the reader: the sights, the smells, and the people. It was especially interesting to see real historical figures seen through the eyes of the heroine and the extraordinary truth of the hero revealed.
London attorney, Shakira Constantine finally agrees to spend the day with her handsome client, Alex Lancaster. While riding in the countryside, the couple finds themselves caught in a time warp and transported back to the 14th century-and an England preparing for war. Everyone believes Alex is the Baron Guy Guisard, a baron who died in the upcoming battle.
If they can’t find a way to return to the 21st Century, Alex will have to sail with the army to certain death. Shakira will be left alone to survive in the alien and terrifying medieval world.
I was thrilled to find out more about Guy in the follow up to Heroes Live Forever. One of my favorite things about Chris Karlsen’s writing style is she tends to address the modern day questions that pop into my head when Shakira finds herself traveling back in time. The fact that she made Shakira a strong minded, intelligent woman was very appealing.
This is a great love story, well developed, and told beautifully. I can’t wait for the next in the series!!
Journey in Time is beautifully written and engaging. Ms. Karlsen did a great job of keeping tension throughout. I connected with both Alex and Shakira. The transition into medieval times was interesting and well-researched. This was one of the most meaty romances I’ve read in a while. Excellent job!
Nothing made sense. Whether it was a crazy university project, a period movie, or re-enactors too into their roles, Shakira didn’t care. This was not the weekend she envisioned. She wanted to leave. The atmosphere, the people, and the looks they gave her made her uneasy. She didn’t know what was going on with Alex. Why did he know everyone? Why had his manner suddenly grown so stiff and imperious? What about this place made it so dangerous for them?
She had enough.
Alex must’ve sensed her anxiety. He interrupted his conversation and was at her side in a matter of seconds.
“I’ll help you dismount.” He took the reins from her firm grip and lifted her down to the ground. “Come.” He offered her his arm and tucked her hand in the crook of his elbow.
“No.” Shakira refused to move. “I want to go home.”
He looked ill, green around the gills, like he was seasick.
She set the pace. He obliged every demand her eager body made. He kissed her hip bong and smiled against her skin as she pressed herself against him. He spread her legs and kissed behind her knees and the soft flesh of her inner thighs. He slid a finger inside her. Her readiness wasn’t in doubt. He wanted to drive her mad, to cry for release, to know desire without hesitation, without boundaries. She moaned as he circled the swollen nub and pressed, arching when he slipped a second finger in, then out, then in again, swirling, taunting, making her body weep.
She had to be on the grounds. She wouldn’t venture far. He walked the corridors stopping anyone who might’ve seen her. He questioned the kitchen servants. None that day served her meals. No one had seen her since the previous night’s banquet.
Alex returned to their chamber afraid something terrible happened. Worse, he had no idea who else to ask. A chill breeze blew through the window and whipped at this cloak. Shakira wouldn’t leave the window open in this weather. Wherever she disappeared to, she left in a hurry. He noticed her clothing trunk missing. She didn’t disappear on her own. Someone knew what happened. He rushed from the room determined to get the answer.
